JOHN B. RIEBLI ELEMENTARY
John B. Riebli Elementary began in August of 1992, becoming the third elementary school in the Mark West Union School District. We are located in the unincorporated area of Larkfield, which is just north of the city of Santa Rosa.
The school serves approximately 400 students in grades kindergarten through sixth. Our school staff includes 18 classroom teachers, a reading specialist, a Resource Specialist Teacher, Special Day class Teacher, a Speech and Language therapist, classroom instructional assistants, library manager, a Computer Lab Technician, a psychologist, a school nurse, and additional support staff.
Parents are formally involved through the School Site Council and the Parent Teacher Association. We have a very active volunteer program at the school, and before and after school childcare is provided on our campus by the Extended Child Care Coalition of Sonoma County.
Our district PTA provides us with invaluable financial support through field trips, a dynamic Fitness & Movement program, classroom and instrumental music, classroom materials, science enrichment, and guest artists and Cultural Arts Assemblies. Our after-school enrichment and intervention classes, our academic program and together with extracurricular activities such as the Mark West Youth Club, Northwest Oaks Soccer League, Scouts, and YMCA sports provide many learning opportunities for our students.
John B. Elementary is a school with a vision of continued excellence in meeting the needs of all students academically, emotionally, socially and physically. We believe that all students can learn in a positive and safe school environment and that we are responsible for providing opportunities for our students to be successful, fostering confidence and self-esteem.
The mission of the John B. School learning community is to provide an instructional program of high standards and academic excellence to ensure that students will have the skills necessary to function in an ever-changing society.
HOW WE ARE INVOLVED
CARING SCHOOLS COMMUNITIES
The Caring Schools Community program includes community-building activities, classroom meetings and lessons, a homeschool connection, buddy activities, and more. This program enables partnering with Riebli families to support our students’ academic, social, ethical, and emotional growth.
GARDEN EDUCATION
All grade levels have the opportunity to learn about gardening in our very own school garden. Parent volunteers are a huge part of keeping our garden as beautiful as it is today.
GATE
All of Riebli’s 3-6 grade teachers have been trained in GATE teaching strategies. The goal of the integrated GATE program is to engage all learners in a dynamic, rigorous, and engaging learning experience with the end goal of preparing them to leaders and stewards of the future.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Besides receiving PE from the classroom teacher, our students have a weekly PE with our PE coach from NAA.
SPIRIT WEAR FRIDAYS
Students show their school spirit each Friday by dressing in school spirit clothes. T-shirts and sweatshirts with the Riebli logo are available. Sales are organized and coordinated by the PTA.
STEM EDUCATION
Through funding from the PTA, Riebli has a part-time Science teacher that supports learning in the STEM room.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP
Students from grades 4-6 are elected to the Student Leadership Council. This teacher-led council advises a teacher, organizes special events, creates fundraisers, and works on solutions regarding student issues.
TOOLBOX BY DOVETAIL LEARNING
TOOLBOX is a research-based, community-tested Kindergarten through sixth grade social and emotional learning (SEL) program. This program of 12 “tools” strengthens students’ self-mastery, resilience, and empathy.
